ABOUT OUR STAFF:

Philip P. Lindsley

Principal & Attorney

Attorney Philip P. Lindsley is a widely recognized elder and disability law attorney, and one of only two Certified Elder Law Attorneys (CELA) in San Diego County.  This specialization is accredited by the American Bar Association and the State Bar of California. His practice is limited to Medi-Cal Planning and Asset Protection, Conservatorships and disability planning, Life Care Planning, Probate and Estate Administration, and Special Needs Trusts

Phil is a native San Diegan, and has been practicing law in San Diego County for over 30 years. Before focusing on Elder Law and Special Needs Law, he practiced in the related areas of mental health law, pharmaceutical and health care, pubic health law and estate planning and administration. Phil is a member of the Trust, Probate and Estate Planning sections of the State and San Diego Bar Associations, and a long time member of the Bar’s Financial and Medical Liaison committees. He is a Co-Chair of the Elder Law Section of the San Diego County Bar, and for five years a Floor Leader of the San Diego County Bar Association’s Estate Planning Section to the California Conference of Delegates.  Phil was also honored to serve four years as a member of the Judicial Nominees Evaluation Commission (JNE) of the State Bar of California.  Phil is a former Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of San Diego School of Law, having taught primarily in the areas of Conservatorship and Mental Health Law.

Phil has worked with many consumer groups and organizations over the years, including the California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform (CANHR), the Alzheimer’s Association, Parkinson’s Disease Association, and the California  and San Diego County Mental Health Associations. He founded the San Diego Elder Law Center in 1997. Philip’s expertise in elder and disability law, and his passion for the needs of elders, their families and their caregivers makes him a frequent and popular speaker to professional and lay groups.

When he is not practicing law, Phil is an avid reader and enjoys his time as a gourmet cook, gardener as well as traveling.

Phil performed his undergraduate and graduate work in Psychology at San Diego State University, and received his law degree from University of San Diego School of Law.

Liz Lockwood

Legal Assistant & Office Manager

Liz Lockwood grew up in Sonoma, California and brings with her a career spanning many years in several industries, including teaching, real estate appraisal, and accounting/account analyst positions. Her most important and favorite past position was that of full-time stay at home mom. During that time she served as an enthusiastic and dedicated parent volunteer at school, for several youth sports teams, and Girl Scout cookie mom.

Liz has been with the San Diego Elder Law Center since 2004 starting as a private contractor handling the court required accountings.  Over time, her eclectic skill set and eye for detail proved to be an indispensable asset to the office. In 2008 she joined San Diego Elder Law Center full time and serves as Legal Assistant/Office Manager, AR/AP/Payroll department, and Medi-Cal specialist. “The most gratifying part about working here is knowing that what the firm does every day makes a positive difference in people’s lives,” Liz tells us. Liz’s primary work philosophy has always been to enjoy what she does and keep learning while she does it.  She has a BA, a M.Ed. and a California teaching credential.
